Coronavirus Update
Post Published: March 13, 2020

Dear valued customers,

At a time when the World Health Organisation has announced COVID-19 (Coronavirus) as a pandemic, Streamline Swim School continues to prioritise the health and safety of its staff, customers and their families. While the pandemic of Coronavirus is real, we don’t believe there is currently any need to panic.

Streamline Swim School will remain operating as normal, being extra vigilant and taking extra precautions under the advice of the Australian Government Department of Health.

However, we have decided to use the two weeks of school holidays to shut down completely as a precautionary measure. Therefore, we have decided to CANCEL the upcoming School Holiday Program (March 30th – April 4th). We feel this is in the best interest of the swim school community. For those students currently enrolled in this School Holiday Program, a full refund of fees paid will be available. Please contact Vicki or Steph on 9439 9040 and they will process the refund over the phone. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask for your understanding in making this decision.

We note that on the 6th March, Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, Brendan Murphy, reminded parents to “go about their normal business without fear” despite the news. We also note the Australasian Leisure Management report published on the 8th of March 2020 stated that “Coronavirus is an airborne virus which cannot spread through water, and in turn using aquatic facilities should not be a concern.”

As an additional precaution, we have increased our already rigorous cleaning procedures; and staff are now extra vigilant in ensuring proper hygiene practices are being followed. We know that our pools already have the latest water treatment equipment and protocols. We encourage parents to remind children of the importance of good hygiene practices. Anti-bacterial wash will be provided at our main office for customers to use. We have, however, chosen to remove the lolly jars from both Streamline and Eltham College venues as a preventive measure during this time.

Streamline Swim School will continue to implement the following procedures to further mitigate the risk of this virus being spread to members of the Community.

  1. If you or your family have recently visited, passed through, or had a stopover in China, Iran, South Korea, or Italy in the last 14 days, we ask that you do not send your children to the Swim School until you have a medical certificate from your GP or they have been back in Australia for at least 14 days with no symptoms of the virus.
  2. If you have had contact within the last 14 days with someone from any of these areas or with someone who exhibits symptoms of the virus, we also ask that you do not send your children to the Swim School until you have a medical clearance certificate from your GP or 14 days have elapsed.
  3. If you have not been in known contact with any of the above, you should feel confident to send your child to the Swim School. This is of course, unless they have any of the flu-like symptoms, in which case, as with other viruses, you should visit your GP and keep your child at home until the symptoms have cleared.

The effective implementation of these procedures will require the support of all members of Streamline Swim School, as it is beyond the capacity of any Swim School to be able to police every instance. Please be alert (whether as parents, staff or students) to any presenting symptoms related to a fever or respiratory difficulties. These include a cough, shortness of breath, rapid breathing, a sore throat, or a runny nose. Please visit your GP if you, or your child, presents with these symptoms.
